Sumy brand JULIYA KROS presents new collection created with Switzerland’s support

“Creating is stronger than destroying. RECONSTRUCTION is not a reaction to loss, but proof of the ability to adapt without losing yourself,” says designer Yuliya Perekriostova.

It was with this manifesto that the JULIYA KROS brand’s new collection, titled RECONSTRUCTION (SS2027 season), was presented. The event went far beyond a traditional fashion show, becoming a case study in the resilience of Ukrainian business amid war and an example of effective international partnership.

When a Russian strike damaged the brand’s production facilities in Sumy, the usual workflow was destroyed. But instead of stopping, the team chose the path of recovery and new solutions.

A decisive role in bringing part of the new collection to life was played by the support of the Swiss-Ukrainian project “Decentralisation and Regional Development in Ukraine” (UCORD), implemented with Switzerland’s support by NIRAS Sweden AB. Thanks to funding under the “Greenhouse of Ideas” grant program, carried out in cooperation with the National Development Agency, the brand was able not only to restore its production capacity but also to realize complex, structurally ambitious design solutions.

For the business and donor community, this case demonstrates one of UCORD’s core objectives in practice: targeted support for local businesses, particularly in frontline regions, delivers not just temporary survival but sustainable development, job preservation, and stronger economic cohesion for the country.

A shared display of dignity and inner strength

A particularly moving and life-affirming moment of the show was the appearance on the runway of Ukrainian veterans who suffered amputations during combat. Together with the models, they became an embodiment of dignity and strength of spirit.

Their participation turned the concept of reconstruction from a metaphor into a living reality: a story about every Ukrainian who goes through trials, finds new footing, and inspires others by their own example to keep moving forward.

The business philosophy and design of RECONSTRUCTION

In Yuliya Perekriostova’s vision, reconstruction happens on two levels: a person discovers new possibilities within themselves, and clothing opens new possibilities for the person.

  • Transformation and functionality: the line is built on the brand’s signature Japanese-inspired aesthetic — deconstruction, asymmetry, and precise geometry. Proprietary double-sided fabric technology made it possible to create transformer garments: a single piece reveals two different looks, adapting to a person’s needs and mood.
  • Sustainable materials: natural linen, cotton, and tencel highlight the honesty, durability, and high standards of Ukrainian manufacturing.
  • A meaningful palette: deep black as the color of inner strength, white as a symbol of a blank page and a new beginning, and earthy, warm tones (beige, brown) that are a reminder that life always finds a way to recover.

The RECONSTRUCTION collection by JULIYA KROS makes a compelling case that, with strategic international support, Ukrainian entrepreneurs are able to convert even the most difficult challenges into growth, powerful social messages, and a world-class product.
